Dear Friends of Bloody Point, We've been taking advantage of this slow season on Daufuskie to plan lots of exciting things for the Spring and Summer! We have all the ingredients to make your trip to Daufuskie one to remember. Now, with a full year and half under our belt, we're planning to be even bigger and better than ever before. Here is what we have in store for you: Amenities Update: The Golf Course is open and is improving every day! Our Grand Opening will take place on Memorial Day Weekend, which will give the course one more full season to reach peak conditions. Thanks to the early spring and lots of rain, we should be in tip-top shape sooner than anyone could have accepted. Pro Shop is open 7 days a week, from 8am to 5pm, and is accepting tee times - 843.341.5566. We have a fleet of brand-new rental carts that can go anywhere on the island except Haig Point! Helipad proposed on Daufuskie Island

The proposal involves removing trees and other growth in a roughly 250-foot by 250-foot area to allow a medical helicopter to transport seriously injured people from the island. "They want an area adjacent to the fire station for the purpose of medical evacuation if it's needed," said county planning director Anthony Criscitello. "They would clear an area so that a helicopter could land and take off if necessary." No new construction is planned for the site. From the Daufuskie Rental Group: Resident Host Families Needed for Marsh Tacky Race Accommodations As most island residents are aware from recent news reports, the Marsh Tacky Association has announced that it will hold its 5th annual beach race on Daufuskie Island on Saturday, April 26th. Previously run on Hilton Head Island, the races exists to celebrate and raise awareness of this endangered breed of horse and its significance to the history and heritage of the Low Country, including Daufuskie, where many Marsh Tacky horses roamed freely for more than a century. More complete information about this race will be provided to Front Porch readers in the near future, including details about a community meeting outlining opportunities for involvement by local residents. In the meantime, however, Daufuskie Rental Group is working with the race event task force regarding housing for the event, and is coordinating with the Marsh Tacky Association to identify all available accommodation...

The guest speaker will be Scott Smith, Executive Director of Savannah’s Coastal Heritage Society, whose topic will be the Revolutionary War in the Lowcountry. The Island Dumping Project will be explained at the DIC Meeting on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 5:30 PM at Mary Fields School. Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Mary Fields School volunteers will meet at 11:00 AM for a cooked lunch, assignment of Clean Up Teams, go to the dumping sites assigned and only remove debris that can be easily and safely picked up. I, Julie Kapur, will be conducting a two day golf program, Feb. 21-22, geared towards the beginner to intermediate player. If you are ready to have some fun and laughs, then don't delay, call the Bloody Point Golf Shop at 843-341-5566 to get more information and reserve your spot. The class is limited to a minimum of six and maximum of eight ladies. In the event the temperature is below 50 degrees or it rains or snows, the class will be rescheduled.
