Brian McCarthy had no intention of buying the Bloody Point golf course on Daufuskie Island when he entered a Charleston courtroom late last month. "I was totally shocked walking out of there owning the place," McCarthy said this week. A judge on Friday authorized the sale of Bloody Point from the bankruptcy estate to McCarthy. He bid $1.64 million for the course, as well as a pool, clubhouse, spa and tennis courts. McCarthy is a longtime...

The pictures are amazing and the original artwork is by Dr. Bill Greenwood. Enjoy the post. ESPN: Home DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. -- Patrick Ford stops by the marina bar. Sometimes the only answer is a vodka tonic or a cold beer. He's lanky, with an easy smile and slightly crooked teeth, dressed in shorts and a polo shirt. A golf pro's uniform. Some people are born to join fancy clubs. His destiny is to work at them. That's how he ended up here, in his summer of uncertainty. One moment, he was tinkering with swings and charging credit cards at a pricy resort; an instant later, he found himself engaged in a struggle that would be comical were it not happening to him: living on a bridgeless island, taking on nature itself, trying to save a bankrupt golf course. Two secured creditors on Friday each took back a chunk of the resort's assets, splitting what was once a major employer on the sparsely developed island. A judge had authorized the creditors' moves late last year, but the trustee overseeing the bankruptcy had continued to try to sell the entire resort to a single buyer until the creditors' deals closed. "Despite every best effort and two years of very hard work during extremely difficult economic times, a single qualified purchaser simply did not materialize," said Tobin Spirer, a spokesman for trustee Robert C. Onorato. Onorato and associates provided information to almost 400 prospective...
