From the DI Front Porch: The holiday issue of the Front Porch has traditionally been our “Thankfulness Issue” In truth, what this issue is about more than anything else is getting to know our neighbors and strengthening community bonds. This year, instead of asking what you are thankful for, we are varying things slightly and asking our readers to send in their response to either or both of the following questions: What is the best thing that has happened to you this year? or What is the strangest thing that has happened to you this year? We welcome all responses and ask that you email them to us at info@daufuskieislandfrontporch.com by November 12th so that we may include them in our next issue. *************************** The Daufuskie Island Front Porch will be hosting its annual 5K Walk/Run Fundraiser, our "Trot & Gobble - 5K & A Taste of Daufuskie" will be held on November 28th 2015 at 11:00AM. The race will start and finish at the Melrose Beach Club with o...

Take a day trip to Beaufort, South Carolina

Take a horse drawn carriage through the Spanish moss draped live oak trees to learn about the history of Beaufort. The shops and art galleries line Bay Street, the main street in Beaufort. They all have very cute names like Salt and Sweetgrass. Be sure to have breakfast at the Blackstone Café and even take your four legged friend if you don’t mind sitting on the patio. Th...

When Kay Stanley and Curt Seymour first visited Daufuskie Island around 2004, they knew they wanted to build a home there. The ocean, the marshes, the wildlife, the history.
