The Marsh Tacky Race is coming to Daufuskie Island on April 26th
From the Daufuskie Rental Group:
Resident Host Families Needed for Marsh Tacky Race Accommodations
As most island residents are aware from recent news reports, the Marsh Tacky Association has announced that it will hold its 5th annual beach race on Daufuskie Island on Saturday, April 26th. Previously run on Hilton Head Island, the races exists to celebrate and raise awareness of this endangered breed of horse and its significance to the history and heritage of the Low Country, including Daufuskie, where many Marsh Tacky horses roamed freely for more than a century.
More complete information about this race will be provided to Front Porch readers in the near future, including details about a community meeting outlining opportunities for involvement by local residents. In the meantime, however, Daufuskie Rental Group is working with the race event task force regarding housing for the event, and is coordinating with the Marsh Tacky Association to identify all available accommodations for race spectators. Keeping in mind that more 7000 people attended last year's race, we expect that all vacation rental properties will be booked very quickly. Accordingly, we are reaching out to island residents who are interested in acting as "Host Families" to race spectators.
