The Daufuskie Island Community Improvement Club will be holding a chili cook off on Sunday, Oct 21st, 1:00 at Marshside Mama’s at 1:00 PM to benefit the December 9th Christmas parade. Everyone is encouraged to enter their favorite chili!!! $10 for chili and hotdogs. $5 for kids and those who enter a chili. Two prizes will be awarded: Peoples Choice and Judges Choice. The fun also includes a cornhole tournament at 2:00 PM.

The Oceanfront Residence Club is hosting a pumpkin painting party! All residence of Daufuskie Island are welcome to join. Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 5:00pm – 6:00pm at The Oceanfront Residence Club’s Office (Cottage 99 Ave of Oaks). Pumpkins, paints, snacks, and drinks are provided! The fun doesn’t stop there; Sea Grass Stables with Melrose on the Beach will be picking up the kids from the party for a Haunted Hay Ride at 6:00 PM ending at the Equestrian Center where the winner of the door prizes will be announced. SCDHEC sponsored marine equipment collection November 2nd (noon-4) and November 3rd and 4th (9:00-4:00). Take motors, anchors, dock lines, crab traps, coolers, scrap material and accessories to any of the following locations. No solvents, paints, oils or cleaners will be accepted. Arrange disposal of boats and trailers with Beaufort County Solid Waste and Recycling (843)255-2734.

BEAUFORT COUNTY IN-PERSON ABSENTEE VOTING
In-person absentee voting will open at 15 John Galt Road, in Beaufort, on Thursday, October 11, 2012. In-person absentee voting will open at 61-B Ulmer Road, in Bluffton, on Monday, October 15, 2012. Polling hours for both locations will be Monday through Friday, from 9 o’clock AM until 4 o’clock PM. Both locations will also be open on Saturday, November 3, 2012, from 9 o’clock AM until 4 o’clock PM. On Monday, November 5, 2012, in-person absentee voting will be open at both locations from 8 o’clock AM until 5 o’clock PM.
Voters are reminded that absentee voting is not no-excuse "early voting." There are a limited number of reasons a voter may vote an absentee ballot. Falsification of an absentee ballot application is a violation of the South Carolina Code of Laws and is punishable by a fine of not less than one hundred dollars not more than five hundred dollars or imprisonment for up to one year, or both.
